Westbrook is a thriving city in Cumberland County, Maine that has recently seen a period of exciting revitalization. The area was once a part of what was called Falmouth, now Portland. It was not until the year 1814 that it was set off and officially incorporated as the city of Stroudwater. The name was soon changed to Westbrook after Colonel Thomas Westbrook, a commander during Father Rale's War and early settler in the area. Today, Westbrook is a thriving community that provides convenient access to a lot of great business and recreational activities within its own city limits and in the nearby city of Portland.
The city of Westbrook has many public recreational areas and facilities available for its residents to use. The beautiful Westbrook River Walk runs along the Presumpscot River and through Westbrook's downtown area, providing a safe, paved trail for bikers and pedestrians. Westbrook is also home to the Walker Memorial Library, which features an extensive multimedia collection, as well as classes and groups for children and adults. The city of Westbrook is also home to numerous churches and places of worship. For athletic pursuits, Westbrook plays host to numerous youth sporting leagues including the Westbrook Youth Football Club and Westbrook Wolfpack Youth Wrestling. Numerous parks and recreation fields host events like Tough Mudder runs and Bike Maine events.
Westbrook’s history in business and manufacturing is still very much evident in the city. The city is home to Sappi Ltd.'s Westbrook Paper Mill and R&D Center, formerly called the S. D. Warren Paper Mill and once the city's largest employer and taxpayer. Today, due to the changing times, the mill has been drastically reduced in its workforce and production. However it has still managed to find its niche in the marketplace and is now one of the nation's top manufacturers of release papers and employs around 300 people, mostly city residents.

The city has an incredible creative community that supports this wide range of art and culture and offers something for every resident’s passions and interests.
